Treatment Fact Sheets
Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
At Premier Women’s Health, board-certified Ob/Gyn physician, Christine H. Matoian, MD and physician assistant, Melissa Rae, PA-C provide comprehensive evaluation and the latest treatment available for abnormal uterine bleeding, including:
- Oral contraceptives
- Synthetic progesterone-like medications
- Ovarian-suppressive drugs
- Endometrial ablation
Dr. Matoian and Melissa Rae, PA-C also treat uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, uterine hyperplasias and other conditions. They offer conservative treatment options that, when appropriate, help patients avoid hysterectomy.
Endometrial ablation with the NovaSure® System is an outpatient procedure that is performed hysteroscopically, allowing access and visualization of the uterine cavity. If no submucous fibroids or polyps are present, bipolar electrical energy is applied for approximately 90 seconds, ablating the endometrium.
Dr. Matoian prefers the NovaSure procedure because of its success rate: 91% of patients return to normal levels of menstrual bleeding, or lower. It is also patient-friendly. Recovery is fast, with patients returning to normal activity within 48 hours. Plus, a remarkable 97% of patients experience no post-procedural pain. NovaSure is also simple. It is not necessary to thin the endometrium with medication prior to treatment and the procedure can be performed at any time during the cycle.
Dr. Matoian also provides diagnostic and therapeutic D&C, myomectomy and, as a last resort, hysterectomy using the latest minimally invasive techniques.
